THEATRE ACTRESS AND WRITER When she got home, she realized she also wanted to write and she started to study the art of Play Writing. Jannike wrote her first theatre play "De svagas Estrad" at the age of 23, and it got fantastic reviews in several of the biggest Swedish newspapers. In Dagens Nyheter, the respected theatre critic Ingegärd Waaranperä wrote: "If she continues with this, she'll reach the stars!". It was a music theatre play, so Jannike Grut was also singing, and in Aftonbladet she was compared to one of Swedens most talented comediennes before her, Birgitta Andersson, who also made a lot of comedic music theatre. Jannike then worked with theatre and comedy, and got her first top notch job at the age of 26 in a radio comedy series in Swedish national radio, "Glädjetåget", with renown comedian Robert Gustavsson and radio host Anders Lundin.
She worked with that show every other week for two years, and also studied the craft of film making at "Stockholm Filmschool" AKA "Stockholm Filmskola" with renown DOP and film teacher Roland Sterner. She wrote two shorts and one longer movie, and got money from the Swedish National Television, Svt, to write a script. "Änglaspel" was shown at Gothenburg film festival.
ACTRESS AND COMEDIAN Then she moved to Denmark, because her father being Danish. In Denmark she decided to deepen her knowledge of theatre and took a Bachelor in acting. During the same period, she also started with Stand-up comedy in her spare time. She performed in Danish, in Copenhagen, Denmark, in international theatre festivals, in English and at Swedish clubs and comedy- festivals around in Sweden. She did the popular Stand up comedy tv show "Släng dig i brunnen!" filmed at the restaurant Norra Brunn. And finally a Swedish Talent Management ran by renown Bertil Goldberg wanted to make her a stand up star! Bertil Goldberg said: "Go for it NOW, Jannike, 'cause your're a broiler, and we need to fry you quickly!" But Jannike didn't feel like being a funny broiler rapidly fried. She wanted to finish her Bachelor in Denmark and sharpen her craft as an actress. So that's what she did.
After the education, she was acting in the international theatre group Cantabile 2, in plays both in Denmark and Germany. She played fringe theatre and did comedy gigs in Copenhagen, Malmö and Stockholm for some years. Then she started her own production company, Moderna Teatern, The modern Theatre. Together with 6 other actresses, including Gertrud Larsson and Eva Westerling, she also ran a very popular comedy show, "Kväll Kjell" until 2002. AND during these years she also met the man of her dreams and built a family.
FILM ACTRESS Only around 2006 she decided to try to get more regular work in tv-series and films, and since then she's been in around 26 Swedish top-notch movies and tv-series, several of them award-winning both in Sweden and internationally.
2012 and 2013 The Modern theatre produced the film "Welcome to our 7-year itch" (Välkomna till vår sjuårskris) in which Morten Meiling and Jannike Grut stars. A co-production with both national Danish and Swedish tv, shown several times in both Denmark and Sweden. It's still possible to see at Swedish "UR play".
2017 Jannike Grut decided to "go international" and only after some auditions she got cast for two American movies.
2018 she is to be seen in the award-winning Swedish feature "Trädgårdsgatan" (Garden Lane), in the tv-film Maria Wern, in the comedy series Katching! and she is also filming an international European production (TBA) She is also developing a Scandinavian/American road movie with her self in on of the leads. The feature "We are family", with both Scandinavian and American actors, is co-written with renown American Screen Writer Alvaro Rodriguez (Machete, From Dusk to Dawn, Spy Kids etc.)
She is also working on the Scandinavian tv-series, "Finding your way home", together with Swedish director Richard Jarnhed and renown Swedish screen writer Jonna Bolin Cullberg ("Bonusfamiljen" and other tv-series). "Finding your way home" was selected to be pitched in front of 30 international investors, producers and broadcasters at the Financing Forum for kids content, in Malmö, Sweden 2018.
