Between 1993 - 1994 he worked as the Director of the Festival Office for the Camerimage Film Festival in Torun, Poland. He later attended top film schools including the Andrzej Wajda Post-Graduate Master School of Film Directing (Ekran), The London International Film School and the National Film and Television School (NFTS) in the UK. He has also participated in Les Premiers Plans and Scripteast.
His short 'Emily Cries', won Best European mid-length film at the 2007 Brest International short Film Festival. His short 'To Bury The Horse' was the finalist in the European Bosch Short Film Competition.
In 2009 he won the Cannes Film Festival's Cinefondation Residence Award.
He was the story consultant on 'Edmond', a BAFTA and multi-award winning short animation by Nina Gantz. He has written radio plays for the Polish National Radio ('A Lucky Guy' and 'Three Chances').
In 2016 he directed his feature debut 'Butterfly Kisses'. Produced by Blue Shadows Films and developed through the BBC and Film London Microwave scheme, 'Butterfly Kisses' had its world premiere in the Generation section at the 2017 International Berlin Film Festival, where it won The Crystal Bear.
Currently, Kapelinski lectures in film directing and visual storytelling at the London Film School and the London Film Academy.
