Her mother is of Danish and North German descent, and her father has Russian, Jewish and Eastern European ancestry. Her mother plays the organ in local public churches and her now retired father was a painter and freelance photographer. Her aunt is Bodil Jørgensen, a Danish actress. When she saw her on stage for the first time, Miri-Ann fell in love with theatre and wanted to pursue acting. When she was 15 years old, Miri-Ann went to Copenhagen and followed a theatre production with her aunt at the Royal Danish Theatre to learn about the craft. It was The Cherry Orchard by Anton Chekhov. Miri-Ann wasn't accepted into the public drama school, so she studied privately, formed improvisation groups and went to drama classes. She also studied philosophy at the University of Copenhagen.
