Tyler Bates is a Los Angeles-born composer who has scored more than sixty feature films, hundreds of episodes of television, major studio video games and artist records. Bates has more than twenty commercially released film soundtrack albums, several of which debuted number one at the box-office. Bates' recent work includes Marvel's 2014 smash hit, "Guardians of the Galaxy," co-writing and producing iconic shock-rocker Marilyn Manson's critically acclaimed album, "THE PALE EMPEROR." Bates co-wrote the score for Keanu Reeves 2014 hit, "John Wick," directed by David Letch and Chad Stihelski, which features the song "Killing Strangers," written by Bates and Manson.
Bates' bold and emotional score for James Gunn's "Guardians of the Galaxy," is an integral component to one of the highest grossing films of all-time. Bates' authentic approach to Zack Snyder's "Dawn of the Dead," drew the attention of the Guardians director, and led to scores for Gunn's horror-comedy "Slither,"and his comically tragic superhero classic, "Super," before the two began their effort to bring "Guardians of the Galaxy" to the big screen.
Bates currently scores DirecTV's new hit series, "Kingdom," and WGN's wickedly popular, "Salem," which features a provocative main title sequence underscored with the song, "Cupid Carries A Gun," co-written by Bates and Marilyn Manson. Tyler Bates and Marilyn Manson first met on the set of Showtime's, "Californication," which Bates scored, and Manson played himself on-screen. The plot of the show brought them together to perform at the Greek Theater in Los Angeles, and an undeniable musical chemistry inevitably led them to Bates' studio, where they created THE PALE EMPEROR, released worldwide in 2015. The album was named the "best metal record of 2015" Rolling Stone magazine. Bates joined the band as lead guitarist for the "Hell Not Hallelujah Tour" in 2015.
Tyler Bates has collaborated with many of today's top directors including Zack Snyder, Genndy Tartakovsky, Scott Derrickson, William Friedkin, Joe Johnston, Rob Zombie, Takashi Shamus, and has solidified Bates' presence as one of Hollywood's top composers for film and television. The score soundtrack to "300" is one of the most popular score albums of the 21st Century, selling 300,000 copies.
